Overview

A mining operation in northern New York is seeking an experienced Mine Health & Safety Director to lead workplace safety programs, regulatory compliance, risk management initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts across underground and surface mining operations.

The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in developing a strong safety culture, supporting operational excellence, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and promote a strong health and safety culture throughout the organization

• Monitor and evaluate health and safety performance indicators

• Conduct audits of underground and surface operations

• Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable regulations

• Perform hazard assessments and risk evaluations

• Lead incident investigations and identify root causes

• Develop corrective actions and improvement plans

• Serve as the primary contact for regulatory inspections and documentation

• Support management teams with safety initiatives and performance improvements

• Supervise health and safety personnel, trainers, and coordinators

• Communicate safety information and provide guidance to employees and leadership

Requirements

Required

• Minimum 5 years of experience in health and safety management

• Strong understanding of workplace safety systems and risk management

• Experience developing and maintaining safety programs

• Excellent communication and leadership skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

• Legal authorization to work in the United States

Preferred

• Experience in underground mining operations

• Mine rescue experience

• Experience with mining safety regulations and compliance programs

• MSHA certifications
